COURSE OVERVIEW

This instructor-led course is intended for professionals who are interested in expanding their knowledge base and technical skills about Microsoft Project 2016/2019. The course begins with the basic concepts and leads you through all the functions you’ll need to plan and manage your projects professionally, including how to level resources and capture both cost and schedule progress. During the course, you will work on setting up your MS project, create project plans from start, create resource pool, assign resources to tasks, monitor and track, and create reports. You will be required to work with how to fix issues with existing project plans and how to fine-tune other plans, use advanced techniques to track and manage project details and create custom reports and view.

This course is intended for both novice and experienced project managers, managers, schedulers, and other project stake holders who need to incorporate the discipline of project management with Microsoft Project 2016.

This course is practical with hands-on training on MS Project. 20% of the course is theory built. 80% uses MS Project. Laptops will be made available duration of the training. In addition, the book ‘Microsoft Project 2019’ will be distributed at the course, in electronic copies.

Initialize a Project

  • Create a project using template, existing template, task list, or Excel workbook.
  • Create and maintain calendars.
  • Apply calendars to project, task and resource levels.
  • Create custom fields using basic formulas, graphical indicator criteria, lookup tables, and task and resource custom fields.
  • Customize option settings, set default task types, manual versus auto-scheduling, project options, calendar options, customized ribbon, and quick access toolbar.

Create a Task-based Schedule

  • Defining project start date, apply calendars and current date, enter project properties, and display the project summary task on a new project
  • Create and modify a project task structure, summary tasks and subtasks, create milestones, create manually scheduled tasks, outline, set tasks as active or inactive
  • Set date constraints, deadlines, dependencies, links, duration equations, effort-driven tasks, and formulas and choose a task type
  • Create a user-controlled schedule and set or change the task mode and use estimated durations and user-controlled summary tasks
  • Manage multiple projects that share the same resource pool. Create links between projects and resolve conflicts.
  • Work with master projects and sub-projects and summarize data in master projects

Manage Resources and Assignments

Track & Analyze a Project

  • Use multiple baselines to baseline an entire project and selected tasks.

  • Use actual work and usage views to reschedule uncompleted work and cancel an unneeded task
  • Compare progress against a baseline.
  • Learn how to show variance of the current plan against baseline (tracking Gantt)
  • Resolve potential schedule problems by using Task Inspector and Task Path
  • View the critical path in single or master projects.

Communicate Project Information

  • Import and Export data from and to Excel, attach documents or link hyperlinks to supporting information.
